Uploading Megger PAT4

Connecting the PAT to your PC

Before going any further, make sure your PAT tester is connected to your computer using the supplied cable (only use the cable that came with your PAT tester). If you want to see more information on what cables you need to connect your PAT tester or if you are using a USB to Serial converter tp connect to your PC click here. NOTE!

Before uploading data to your Megger PAT4 DV/3, you must first make sure that you have downloaded data from the tester previously, since the last PAT4 download raw data file contains the settings for your group codes (test codes) that are uploaded back into the tester.

Before you can upload, you must select the tests which you wish to upload.

On the Main SimplyPats screen you can use the mouse together with the shift and/or ctrl keys to select a range of tests. Use the sorting and grouping options if you want to select just a particular site or location.

Select the "Upload PAT" option from the "File Menu" and you will see the PAT Settings Upload screen. Shown below.

When this screen appears, you will need to check that the settings are correct. If you want the location information in SimplyPats to be uploaded into the Room ID field on the Megger PAT 4 DV/3 then make sure that the box is ticked.

SimplyPats will automatically detect the correct Com Port but if you experience problems uploading to this PAT tester, you may wish to manually configure the com port as follows:

Overriding The Com Port

1) Select the Com Port that your PAT tester is attached to using the drop down box at the top of the screen.

2) Tick the Override Auto Detect Com Port box

Starting The Upload

To Start the upload process, click on the upload button and you should see a screen similar to that shown below as SimplyPats waits for the data from your PAT tester.

From the Main Menu on your Megger PAT4 DV/3 choose COMMS.

From the Main Menu (Shown above) on your Megger PAT4 DV/3 choose COMMS, this will bring up the following options;

Choose RECEIVE.

The PAT will now ask if you want to Erase all data, choose CONTINUE
WARNING All data stored on your PAT will be deleted and replaced by the data selected for upload.

You will once again be asked if you want to continue to upload your data. Choose YES to continue or NO to Exit.
The PAT will now start to clear it's Memory, ready for the new data.

After a few moments the Connecting screen will be displayed.

If Connection is successful, you will then see the Receiving screen.

SimplyPats will also notify you that connection has been made by displaying the upload data screen. The total number of Appliances and current Appliance being uploaded is also displayed.

We would recommend that you wait for all data to be uploaded, pressing Cancel or turning off your PAT while uploading data will result in data corruption. If this happens you will need to re-initiate your PAT (Refer to your PAT manual) and repeat the upload.

Logging Into The PAT4

Once you have uploaded to the PAT4 you will be asked by the PAT to give a User and Pin to log back into the PAT. The users are any that have been uploaded by SimplyPats from the User Field. In addition to the users uploaded, the user AVO is also added. The SimplyPats uploaded sets the password to 1234 for ALL users.
