Drag And Drop

Dragging and Dropping appliance information from SimplyPats into other programs. This is something known as OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) and simply means that if more than one program is OLE enabled, you can drag and drop data from one program into another. In SimplyPats, if you select a range of tests you can drag those into an open Microsoft Word (tmp) Document, Excel (tm) Spreadsheet or any other OLE enabled program.

Enable Drag And Drop

To enable dragging and dropping, on the Main Screen Tab of the System Settings Screen, tick the Enable Drag and Drop tick box.

From the "Settings" menu select the "System Settings" option, or (Quick Key Press CTRL+K), for the System Settings screen.

Select Tests

First of all you will need to start a copy of the target program with a new document if necessary. In this example Microsoft Word, and SimplyPats. You will need to arrange the windows of each program so that you can see them both on screen.

In SimplyPats, select the tests you want to copy. See Selecting Multiple Tests

Drag Tests To Other Program

To drag the appliance, click on the blue highlighted appliances and keeping the left mouse button held down, drag the mouse over to the target program. You will notice that your mouse cursor icon changes from a simple pointer to one shown in the red highlight above. When you reach the point at which you want to insert the appliances, let the left mouse button go.

Drag Completed

After the drag you will see your appliances in the document.

Changing What Appliance Details Are Copied and their Format

You can change which details of the appliance are copied and the separator between each field from the System Settings screen.

Selecting the Field titles check box adds the header to each field, You can see this in the example above with the line title line "AppId App Description Test Date" etc.

There is a choice of four separators. Space, Comma, Return and Tab. If you choose Return, the appliance details will be listed vertically as opposed to horizontally. Selecting TAB as a separator is useful if you are dragging data tio Microsoft Excel (tm). This ensures Excel puts each Appliance Detail in a separate Cell in your work sheet.
