AlphaPat Download

Attach Download Cable

You should only use the cable supplied with your PAT Tester or if you make your own cable take care to follow the wiring diagram. The Alpha, Beta and Omega PATs all use a straight-through 9 pin male to 9 pin female cable.

On the right hand side of the Alpha Pat you will find a Female 9 pin Serial (RSR232) port. The download cable connects to this port and then to the Male 9 pin Serial (RS232) port on the back of your Computer.

You should only connect the cable when both PC and PAT Tester are switched off. If you connect the cable when they are switched on, there is a possibility that you will damage the port electronics on the PAT Tester, PC or both.

Press the Enter Key on the PAT to select it.

From the Setup Menu, use the Arrow keys to move down to the BAUD RATE option and again press the Enter key.

From the Settings Menu select the System Setting option.

In the System Settings screen, select Metrel - Alpha Pat as the Pat Tester.

Next, select the Baud Rate - this should be the same that you select on the Metrel AlphaPat. You may also want to decide on what you want to do with the Notes field in the AlphaPat.

On the Send Results screen, use the arrow keys to select ALL FOUND TO PC and press the Enter key. You will see on this screen what the current Baud Rate is set as.

To start the AlphaPat downloading you need to to click on the download button on SimplyPats.

You will then see the download screen as it starts communicating with the PAT

TIP: Its a good idea to start the download on SimplyPats before you start the download sequence on the PAT Tester. SimplyPats will wait until downloading starts, or until you click on the Cancel button on the SimplyPats download screen. If you start the download on the PAT and don't start the download from the PAT Tester quickly enough then you will see a connection error as the PAT will only try and send data for a short period of time before giving up.
