Maintaining Abbreviations

Using Abbreviations instead of the full Appliance Name is a great time saving feature while Testing. Just as Price and Repair Codes, Abbreviations are entered into the PAT (if Supported) at the end of each test.

The screen shot below shows the Maintain Abbreviations window, from here you can edit or delete existing abbreviations, add your own and print a list of current abbreviations used.

When you download your test data into SimplyPats, the abbreviations for any appliances are also downloaded (provided you entered the abbreviations at the time of the test) and displayed in the Appliance Description field on the SimplyPats Main Screen, shown below.

In the above image, you can see the engineer entered WB3K, EX8 and SH as abbreviations for three appliances while testing.

If you look at the first image showing the Maintain Abbreviation window, you will see these three abbreviations listed at the top. As you can see each one has a full Decsription next to it.

Abbreviation Full Word
WB3K WATER BOILER 3KW
EX8 EXT CABLE 8 WAY
SH SHREDDER

Simply click the Replace Abbreviations icon and SimplyPats will replace every abbreviation in that file with the Full Word, providing the abbreviation exists in your Maintain Abbreviation List, shown in the image below.

For more information about entering Abbreviations while testing, please see the topic Using your PAT Tester Comment Lines or your PAT testers manual.
