Overiding System Settings

Setting a Single Static Com Port

Please note, if you are unsure what you are doing please contact our technical support help desk before proceeding with this modification.

When the SimplyPats program starts up a search is made for all the available Com Ports on your PC. This can take some time and where you have "odd" ports such as those used for Bluetooth or where other software is running on your PC locking some ports (e.g. some music devices, mobile phone, camera software) problems can occur.

You can overide the search for Com Ports that SimplyPats makes by adding the following line to the System Settings section of the SimplyPat.ini file. For example the line highlighted in green below when added to the SimplyPats.ini file will set the Com Port 8 to be used when downloading. You must obviously check which com port you intend to use to download as only the port you specify will be used.

SimplyPats.ini can be found in c:\Program Files\SimplyPats 6\ and can be edited by using notepad. Simply double click the file to edit it.

Shown below is an example section from the [System Settings] section of the SimplyPats.ini file with the relevant line to add highlighted in green.

[System Settings]

Fixed Com Port=8

Overiding Checks For Microsoft Office (tm)

Please note, if you are unsure what you are doing please contact our technical support help desk before proceeding with this modification.

When the SimplyPats program starts up a search is made of your PC to find out if Microsoft Office (tm) has been installed and what version it is. On occasions there maybe problems for SimplyPats discovering whether and which version have been installed. This is often the case when multiple versions of Microsoft Office have been installed or where incomplete uninstallations have occurred. The checks made for Microsoft Office can be disabled by adding the following two keys to the System Settings section of SimplyPats.ini

SimplyPats.ini can be found in c:\Program Files\SimplyPats 6\ and can be edited by using notepad. Simply double click the file to edit it.

Shown below is an example section from the [System Settings] section of the SimplyPats.ini file with the relevant lines to add highlighted in green.

[System Settings]
Data Path=C:\AR Metrel SimplyPats V5\Data
Com Port=6
Disable Word Check=1
Disable Outlook Check=1
Baud Rate=4
Omega Baud Rate=4
Fluke Baud Rate=3

Allowing Extra Punctuation In Abbreviations

When your abbreviations are converted to full words, SimplyPats looks for spaces and punctuation between the abbreviations to find each abbreviation in turn and convert it to a full word. Adding the following line to the [Sysytem Settings] section of the SimplyPats in program will allow you to create abbreviations containing the following punctuation characters . ' -

You can then have an abbreviation HP-CO which will be recognised as a whole, rather than finding 2 separate abbreviations HP and CO
