Multiple Continuity Tests

SigmaPat, OmegaPat, BetaPat , and AlphaPat Continuous and Single Earth Continuity Tests

With the SigmaPat, OmegaPat, BetaPat and AlphaPat, it is possible to create your own test codes rather than just using the Autotest shortcuts.

You can set to carry out any of the tests in continuous mode as opposed to single mode. In continuous mode you can repeat the same test on an appliance.

This is useful in the case of Earth Continuity testing, for example, where you need to attach the earth wander lead to get an earth. If the appliance is painted or the crocodile clip is not securely attached it might not be possible to get a good earth contact. The earth continuity test might fail because of this. In continuous mode you can reposition the earth wander lead and repeat the test.

In this mode, all the earth continuity results are recorded by the OmegaPat, BetaPat or AlphaPat. On downloading, SimplyPats stores the LAST test result that was conducted and uses this results to determine if overall the appliance failed or passed in conjunction with the other tests carried out on the appliance.

You can of course set any of the tests to operate in continuous mode as opposed to single mode. The same applies as decribed above. SimplyPats records the LAST test result.

With previous versions of SimplyPats there could be issues when downloading data where users had created their own test codes with continuous mode testing. Whilst a test might have failed, been retested and passed, the OmegaPat, BetaPat or AlphaPat internally recorded the test as a fail - even though the last result was a pass. SimplyPats Version 6 looks at the last result for a test and uses this to determine if the test passed or failed.

New Zealand / Australian Firmware BetaPat

In January 2008 a new version of the BetaPat was relaeased in Australian and New Zealand with the capability of doing 2 Earth Continuity tests one after another, typically the first at 100ma and the second at 25A. This is designed to speed up testing computers with their leads under a single test. SimplyPats 6 has the capability of downloading this New Zealand / Australian variant of the BetaPat and storing both continuity tests.
