Backup Data

It is a good idea to periodically backup your data files. Selecting the "Backup Your Data " option from the "Settings Menu" will bring up the screen shown below.

This option will back up all the files in your data folder (The Source Folder) to a single zipped backup file in the Target Folder. (A zip file is a way of compressing several files into a smaller archive file).

A suggested filename is given (including todays date and time) although you can enter your own filename. If you want to change where your backup is save to, for example you may which to backup your files to a Memory Stick or zip disk, click on the Target button and change the folder where you wish to save to.

SimplyPats will remember the Target path that you select. If you set the Target to an external disk, or USB pen drive, remember to plug that in prior to going to the backup data screen otherwise SimplyPats will not be able to check that the drive exists and will reset the Target path back to the default SimplyPats backup folder. c:\Program Files\SimplyPats 6\Backup\

Search Subfolders in Source Folder

When this tick box is ticked, any sub folders underneath your selected source folder will be searched and any files found added to your zip file. This is important to select if you have created your own data folders underneath the main data folder in order to separate work for different customers for example. If you don't tick this box then only the files in the top level folder where you store your data will be backed up.

Ok

Perform the backup. A progress bar will show you the progress of the backup operating and the status area will show if the backup was sucessfull, or not. If the backup is successful then the target folder will be remembered for the next time you backup.
